Enlighten me
Nov. 1st, 2007 01:58 amI stopped by a grocery store on my way home to pick up additional candy -- I had very little on hand, and just found out last night that we were going to do a Trunk-or-Treat after church tonight. As I was surveying the remains of the Halloween candy, a woman unable to find what her in-laws had sent her out for approached me: "Excuse me...I don't do Halloween; I'm Jewish."
Now, "I don't do Christmas; I'm Jewish" -- that makes perfect sense to me. But Halloween? Not a religious holiday, at least in any meaningful way, so far as I'm aware. More like a bunch of end-of-fall/beginning-of-winter holidays from a bunch of cultures all piled up on the same day.
Am I missing something, or was her statement a non sequitur?
