Still have a ton of unpacking to do, and I need to call SBC tomorrow ang figure out whether it's their problem or my problem that I only have dialtone on 2 (out of 4 or 5) jacks. This is an improvement, though; before today, I had dialtone on 0 jacks. I say "4 or 5" because one in the bedroom is decidedly odd, and I think it's an ancient splitter-equivalent rather than a jack in its own right. (Look, have you seen a phone jack with a power cord in this century? Maybe some of you folks who remember the '70s can elucidate me.)

Bit of trouble getting out of the old place -- when we tried to disconnect the washing machine, the pipe snapped off in the wall. Water everywhere, and the property manager wasn't answering the "emergency" pager. Ended up having to get the city to send someone to shut off the water, due to the lack of actual shut-off for the unit. Don't worry, I do know where the shut-off for this place is, should it ever be necessary. We ended up having to cut the hot water intake hose to get the washer out, so that's now at the top of the repair list.

Haven't found a roommate yet, but there's a woman coming to look at the room Saturday. It's one of several she's checking out, though; dunno if anything will come of it.

Haven't figured out all the furniture placement yet, but I'm making progress. Need to do something about the general lack of curtains soon, especially in the bedroom. Not so much for privacy -- there's no obvious line-of-sight from anyone else's window, and the balcony wall would block most or all of the view -- but so I'm not blinded by the morning sun.

Also need to bring in/set up more of the lights -- and figure out what some of the switches control -- I've tried every outlet I've found in the bedroom, and the switch doesn't seem to affect any of them!

Also need to figure out what's up with the A/C. It passed the inspection, so I suspect user error, but I can't seem to get it to actually kick in. I'd like to upgrade the thermostat to a nice programmable one, though, so I can come home to a cool house without leaving it running all day. (I'm opting for the warm house rather than the high bill for the moment, but I suspect there will be parts of the summer where that's a much more difficult choice.)

Work's in a major crunch right now, but I think I can stay on top of it, especially now that most of the moving stress is resolved. I'm likely to be working late a lot for the next month or so, though.

Baycon was wonderfully fun; [livejournal.com profile] hazelchaz has some great pictures, which I'm sure those of you who care have already seen.

Phone jack with a power cord was the power supply for a "princess" phone, which had a lighted dial. There are 4 wires in the standard old-style phone cable; phone only uses the middle two, so they could put power on the others.
