I got laid off yesterday afternoon.
Dusted off my resume and put it up on Monster and Dice. (I'll continue with more sites today -- feel free to make suggestions.)
Today, a recruiter called me at 8 AM. One of the two companies he talked about sounded like a potentially very good fit -- definitely the right skillset! ANd it's the agency that placed me at Gateway, too.
It's not 2002.

Yikes! Hopefully it'll turn out to be a positive thing overall, giving you an occasion to move to a new job you like better.

Eeps about getting laid off. Did you see it coming, or was it a nasty surprise?

But yeah, I'd have to agree, the job market today is a lot different than in 2002. I've hidden/deactivated my resume on the big boards, but I'm still getting contacts about once a week wondering if I'm ready to jump ship.

If you can afford it, make sure to take some time off between accepting a new job and starting it. I find it's sooooo relaxing not to have to worry about work when you're between jobs. :-)

JOhn.

Good luck, and congrats on the quick lead - I hope your job search ends quickly. As an optimistic sign of the times, I got calls from three different agencies yesterday (though, amusingly, all for the same position!!!). I haven't listed a resume anyplace in at least six months now...

Sorry that happened, but by now you should have enough experience to make a soft landing. God be with you.

Eep! Good luck finding a new job quickly, and may it be one that you like even more then the current job.

For resume posting, I'd suggest jobing.com and hotjobs, and there will also be a job fair tomorrow (ask [livejournal.com profile] galtine1 for more details).

I didn't want to forget to tell ya. me and ashi found a nifty book you might like. "Chicks with sticks (It's a purl thing)" by Elizabeth Lenhard
Teen fluff, but looks interesting. Haven't read it yet since my work doesn't have it and I'm poor, but thought I'd pass it on to you. It was cute, we both went to pick up the book at the store and say that you would like it prolly :D
Teehee :D
