Safely arrived in Lebec, where I'm staying at a Ramada Limited -- rapidly becoming one of my favorite hotel chains. Free WiFi, in-room fridge, and properties with some personality -- not 5-star rooms, but better than the average cheap motel by a long shot. Well, that's been true at the ones I've stayed at so far, anyway. I had actually booked a room at a Best Western a bit further north (though not as much further as I'd thought), but either AAA or I goofed up, and what I thought was a non-smoking reservation wasn't. So they called over here, where a lovely non-smoking room was available, and here I am.

Sometime this afternoon, an odd thing happened: a noise, somewhere between a stomach rumble and the buzz of a vibrating cell phone, came from my abdomen -- and 75 or 80% of the pain vanished. I assume some muscle(s) were in spasm and released, or something like that. The drive seems to have brought back a bit of it, and I'm still somewhat bruised and tender, but much better now, and some heat and reat will probaby help.

I forgot to pack my swimsuit, but have acquired an extra, so I can hot tub at con, should I so desire (and I probably will!)

Stay away from the Ramada Limited in Mountain View then. Its why I don't do Ramadas any more.

What was the problem, and how long ago was it? The ones I've stayed at have been nothing but pleasant.

To be honest, this was the only Ramada Limited stay that was less than satisfactory. It started when I checked in and the registration person was in a cage. The room itself was dingy, and when I tried to use the phone it, outside dialing was disabled. I had to go to the office and leave a credit card imprint in order to use the phone. To top it off, my cousin (works in Burlingame) called and was given the run-around, even though she knew I was there and in what room number. SHE even complained about the motel. The final straw was the $150 a night rate.

It was the last time I let the company travel office book a hotel for me.
