Edit: Apology has been made and accepted.

(12:13:04 PM) impious: Greetings fellow humans, cmullican
(12:13:21 PM) impious: :-p
(12:14:47 PM) cmullican: Just because you can't handle a 1000+ table DB without a crutch doesn't make me superhuman.
(12:17:37 PM) impious: I must say it's somewhat interesting that you are so intent on getting into a pissing match with me. You'll probably need one of these tho: http://www.shewee.com/
(12:18:35 PM) cmullican: And people wonder why there aren't more women in open source.
(12:30:01 PM) impious: I'm totally going to hell for that one... but worth it

What a fucknut. I hope you told him perhaps he needed a nice buttplug or home circumcision kit or something. Jeez.

Nah, I try not to stoop to that level.

After all, as far as I know, my former coworkers don't wince when my name cames up...

LOL! You should tell him that. :) Why was he being so touchy?

Well, there's a number of possible answers to that question, but mostly, any I provided would be guesses. The surface issue is that he wrote an ORM[1]. I do not like ORMs as a class, and I am not alone in this. For whatever reason, he apparently sees my opinion as threatening, or a personal insult, or something along those lines. I do not know if my gender actually has anything to do with this reaction, since he's pretty much a jerk in general, but that doesn't excuse the above-quoted. Were he a coworker, I'd be having a chat with HR.

[1] It is not important for this discussion to know what an ORM is.

I see. Well your comment did read a little snarky to me, but now I understand why. :)

Oh, my comment was absolutely snarky; this is really part of a larger, on-going conversation, which had not crossed that kind of line before today.
He can apparently dish it out but not take it, at least from me. There's never an excuse for dehumanizing people; choosing to interpret it as "superhuman" rather than sub-human or simply non-human was my attempt to not escalate. The 1000+ tables bit is because, during a presentation last night, he'd claimed his 250 table DB was too big to keep track of using traditional methods, thus the need for the ORM. I deal with DBs containing over 1000 tables without such a crutch.

Oh, DBR?

I am relieved; I was never going to use it anyway. (Not that I'd be calling for a boycott from this alone or something, but there's a current of nastiness there that I think I'd rather not work with.)
