I set out for lunch thinking I wanted a bagel sandwich. Unfortunately, I couldn't find a bagel shop in the area -- the ones I knew of are no longer there. (I may be misremembering the location of one, but the other is definitely gone.) I decided to hit California Pizza Kitchen instead. Definitely a good call.

I hadn't been to a full-fledged CPK in about 5 years, just the airport variety. My tastes and their menu have both expanded in that time. Today I had a carmelized pear and gorgonzola pizza. It was server with a green salad with gorgonzola dresing down the middle of the plate and half the pizza on either side. The pizza had hazelnuts on it, which made a wonderful combination with the other flavors. I vaguely recall the menu mentioning carmelized onions being involved; there was not a strong oniony flavor, though. SO good. So California, but wow. I am not a skilled enough food writer to do this pizza justice.

Service was good, too. I sat at the bar (no waiting, and I like tall chairs). The waiter was friendly and helpful without being intrusive. The restaurant was quiet enough that I could read easily, yet not dead.

A bit too expensive to be a regular lunch choice, but not bad. Definitely one to hit a couple of times a month.
