So my current DSL provider is dying.
They say they're working with oter providers to transition custiomers with minimal disruption, but who knows?
If I cancel it myself and switch to another DSL provider, I'll be offline for 2-3 weeks. Unacceptable.
Ricochet is available in San Diego now. Speeds are comparable, though top sped is lower. I don't do heavy online gaming or anything, so it'd probably be fast enough for me.
My wireless router has a serial port, intended for a dial up modem as a fallback, so I should be able to connect the Ricochet modem and not mess with my network set up.
They're offering a free modem deal now. Don't know if I can get a static IP with Ricochet, though.

It's possible that Ricochet will go under again. In that case, I'd likely have enough notice to switch to a DSL provider with no downtime.

If you see a reason why this is a bad idea, please tell me. If they'll give me a static IP, this seems like my best bet, so far.
Update: No static IPs. Though that seemed like a relatively clueless salesdroid. DHCP does not mean you can't give out static IPS. Back to the drawing board. Ideas welcome.
