Jan. 27th, 2003 08:10 amI was travelling, with 2-3 other people, but in my truck. It was night throughout this dream. There was some sort of quest for sailcloth -- we were going to get some, but someone else beat us to it, so we were trying to find another source. Meanwhile, someone was supposed to alter my "sailor outfit" so it would fit properly. The man (a shadowy figure not clearly seen) who was supposed to do this had also apparently made it. The outfit itself was also never clearly seen -- even in the dream, I was somewhat confused and not sure what was going on or why we needed to do any of this. But instead of altering my outfit, the man cut my hair, which was longer, darker, coarser, and curlier in the dream. Cutting my hair without my permission and over my protests was almost akin to rape in the dream-reality, so I was going to go sleep in the car and was layering one set of pajamas over the ones I already had on so I'd be warm enough. One of my companions decided to join me -- no one in this dream had an identity, really; I'm calling the perspective character 1/me, but it wasn't the me I am when I'm awake, exactly. Anyway, I tried to talk my companion out of it, because there wouldn't be as much room to get comfortable, but he insisted, and then somehow there were actually three of us. I think I woke up at some point after that.
While in reality cutting my hair without my permission would certainly be a boundary violation, which has only occurred once, in my childhood, you wouldn't get very far now, unless I was actually strapped down. In the dream, though, there was a strange exaggerated power dynamic of some sort -- I said "No" as he started cutting and throughout, but he didn't stop, and I just lay there, crying, while he did it -- why he was cutting my hair while I was laying on my side, I don't know. And the dream-me was extremely hurt and scared by this occurrence.
