For those who don't recognize him, that's Ray Bradbury.

Oh that's wonderful -- I have a vivid memory of sitting in a hallway in junior high reading R is for Rocket and S is for Space. I just got his book "Zen in the Art of Writing" last Sunday at a yard sale.

I'm going to lose a *lot* of geek points for this, but... Who's Ray Bradbury?

I've heard of him before, but I forget what he's written. <:)

Please report for Remedial Geek Indoctrination, Citizen.

Couple of biggies are The Martian Chronicles and Something Wicked This Way Comes.

My geek is insufficient. ;.;

Oh, wicked cool.

I got to see him speak--at the Air and Space Museum, I believe--when I was in high school. He said that no one should read Moby Dick before they turn 40.

I've never forgotten that, and I've followed that advice. 3 more years and then I can call him Ishmael!

Don't forget

Fahrenheit 451. Especially given the current political climate.

A few things amaze me about Ray Bradbury:

a) he's still alive
b) he's still writing while in his 80s
c) he now lives in the Los Angeles area
d) he lives in LA and does NOT own a car

He's lived in LA for a long time. I don't think he's ever driven, but he and has wife have owned a car; at one point in the talk, he mentioned the point where he was making enough to afford one.

Learning Annex brings him down to talk about writing once a year.

Very cool. His stories are what got me hooked on SF; I've waited years to meet him.

Really? That's cool! I'll have to keep an eye out for the next time he'll be down.

Thanks,
