(no subject)
Oct. 2nd, 2003 03:07 pmOK, ok, I haven't updated in ages. So I should write something before I vanish into the depths of Conjecture for the weekend. I shall work backwards:
Wednesday:
Work was boring.
Lesson 2 on the 10 commandments with the kidlets. I split them into groups of 2 or three, gave each group a single plate, and had them decide among themselves if they wanted cheese, peanut butter, or both on their crackers. Object: to practice sharing and treating each other with respect. (Ages are 3 year olds through 2nd grade) Worked out pretty well for the most part; no one was especially grabby or argumentative.
Put away laundry and washed some dishes in the evening.
Tuesday:
Work was boring. (This is a theme, of late. I don't like the project I'm mostly working on. There's no coding involved, just system configuration and testing. I like coding. I don't like configuring systems.)
Gym, then laundry.
Monday:
Work was work. I finished researching the interesting thing I've been working on lately -- figuring out a way for a certain bit of layout to be reasonably converted to PDF. (It looks fine in HTML; the PDF conversion was spacing it funny, as was importing the HTML into Word.)
Crocheted all evening while listening to more of Lolita. I like listening to books on tape while doing housework or crafting. At the time I bought it, this was the only interesting unabridged work my used bookstore had. I've found a few more since, but I'd already started this. I'm almost halfway through it now -- there are 8 tapes, and I'm on tape 4. All the pieces for my grandfather's Christmas present are done, and the body is assembled. I need to attach the pockets and acquire and attach buttons.
Sunday:
Final Conjecture staff meeting. Preacher candidate at church. I liked him pretty well; there's a pretty good chance they'll offer him the job.
Saturday:
Pirate Faire! Yarrr! A fun way to spend my birthday. I wish the hatter hadn't been so swamped; I wanted a nice hat with a big feather. Maybe I'll get one from him in November, at the Escondido Ren Faire. None of the off-the-rack hats other vendors had fit or were something I liked. Camping was fun, too. Next time, I'll bring my binoculars and water shoes, and someone will bring better firewood. (This is not indirect communication; this is "I don't know who will do it.") I think I lost my badge, though, and the campground hasn't returned my calls.
Friday:
Work, bought a cheapie sleeping bag, drove north.
Thursday:
Work, gym, packed.
Wednesday:
Work.
10 commandments, part 1: God is priority 1. Bread "tablets" with jelly, topped with a graham stick '1' and a Townhouse cracker '0'.
Tuesday:
Mom to airport.
Work, gym. Relaxed.
Monday:
Yoga, since I missed Saturday. Lunch with Mom at Sipz. Bought stuff to make dinner that night. Did what prep I could.
meowse and his daughter came over; we watched Stitch: the Movie, and I cooked: chicken veronique, spinach salad, asparagus. Well received by all.
Weekend:
Ladies' Retreat with Mom. Some good speakers; one recovering compulsive overeater who looks like she's gone too far the other way. But she spoke fairly well and reasonably -- I'm just not sure she truly practices what she preaches.
Friday:
Took Mom to my favorite local bakery and my used bookstore and ran a few other errands before heading up Palomar for the retreat.
Thursday:
Work, gym, collect Mom from airport.
Wednesday:
Work, church -- Moses and Israelits in desert, Isrealites complian of no water, God tells Moses to hit rock with his rod and water will come out. Snack: grape juice they made from concentrate (with supervision) and pretzel rods. Object: God's patience with the whiny Israelites.
Frantic final cleaning, with help from
textivore.
Tuesday:
Work, cleaning with help from
meowse. I think I skipped the gym in favor of cleaning.
Monday:
Work, cleaning. I think. My memory has gone fuzzy this far back, so now I'll stop.
