(ganked from all over the place)

I know very little about some of the people on my friends' list. Some people I know relatively well. Some of you I hardly know at all. Perhaps you lurk, for whatever reason. But you friended me and I thank you.

But here's a thought: why not take this opportunity to tell me a little something about yourself. Any old thing at all. Just so the next time I see your name I can say: "Ah, there's so and so...she likes spinach."

I'd love it if every single person who friended me would do this. Yes, even you people who I know really well. Then post this in your own journal, if you feel like it.

I am one of those girls from Seattle (a native), working in a nice office job. I sew sometimes (including quilts), and some other bits of crafty things. I wear glasses, am omnivorous, and hopefully a whole lot more. I put "bringing hope to the universe since 1972" in my signature file because I hope the world is a better place because I'm in it (and it reminds me to try and do more than just exist. :)

I own way too much yarn and my current knitting passion is socks.

I was in an Ukrainian dancing & singing troupe from the age of 6 until I was 16. I was also in Ukrainian "girl guides/scouts" and went to Ukrainian school once a week.

I can't speak Ukrainian worth a damn.

I gave up fast food a little over a year ago and have been 99.8% pure about it. Now I seem to be giving up corn-syrup sodas. I don't do these things with pre-planning; they just happen.

Some people will attest that when they get an album that they like, they will listen to it over and over until they're sick of it. Some people will attest that when they find a song that they really like, they'll put the song on repeat until they get sick of it. I do both of these, but I also obsess over song fragments. I've been known to record songs, find teeny chunks, loop them, and leave that on repeat. As an example, I once sampled the chunk of "Egypt," from Future Sound of London's 'ISDN' album that contains the sample: "Come, fly at the teeth of the wind. Share my wings." (and then repeats it, slowed down). It represented a total of about ten seconds of audio. I made a very smooth loop of it, and left it on repeat day and night, even when I slept, for almost four days before I put on something else.

#1- (The G-rated one) I am obsessive about my Xmas tree. I randomly rearrange ornaments to achieve an aesthetic balance, all the way up until the holiday itself :)

#2- (The NC-17 rated one) I love 20-strand soft suede floggers.

I am a costume nut. I dress in costume for the fun of it and look for events as excuses to wear a costume. For halloween, it has to be a different costume for each event. It was a slow year this year, there were only 4 costumes (admittedly, this is stretching the definition and the biggest year was only 6 different costumes). I work LosCon where we can't wear a costume while working. So I get around this by wearing formal wear.

either i'm extraordinarily unlucky about food poisoning or newly allergic to something in ethiopian food, as the last two times i've had it (widely spaced in time, at two different restaurants) i've been very very very sorry a few hours afterwards.

Ever since I graduated from University back in '92, I have been playing around with Artificial Intelligence as a hobby....Motion Planning, Logic Puzzle solving, Game Theory, Genetic Adaptation, Neural Networks.....

And, for the first time in my career, I have finally found a job where they'll pay me to do Research and Development on an Artificial Intelligence system.....

Being paid for what I was doing anyway... How cool is that?

Oh, I also Juggle, and have 80+hours of flight time towards my private pilot's license.... :-)

Cool idea...

I'm a nerd girl who lived in Seattle for 13 years but now lives in Vancouver, Washington. (No, not Canada.) My first Con was Rustycon 12, the Year They Shut Old Rusty Down. Despite that, I've continued to go to between 1 and 4 per year, and occasionally put stuff in the art shows.

I just got married in November, too, in a Renaissance/Medieval/Fantasy themed wedding. Whoo!

Fun!

I think we've met perhaps once, via [livejournal.com profile] meowse, at a Baycon. Part of me is wondering "what, if anything, does she really want to know about me?"

I'm a veterinarian, cat lover, and human being by genetic definition, with two X chromosomes. I live up in the middle of the Santa Cruz mountains in the cabin that my father inhabited after my parents split up when I was 6. I vowed that I would never go through a divorce, and spent 10 years with the same guy before finally getting over my commitment issues to marry him. 5 years later, we divorced. Yes, I'm still bitter about it all.

I despise the flavor and texture of mushrooms. I would gorge myself sick on Almond Roca and fresh strawberries if I didn't know any better. When I was young, I once made myself violently ill when I overate chocolate candy one Halloween, and anytime I eat rich foods I need to take care to not overeat lest I spew.

I try to be responsible about finances, especially since I'm the main wage-earner of my tiny family unit (1 boyfriend, 1 miniature horse, 3 cats). I've actually socked some away in a IRA and pray that I will have enough when I get too old to work. I do not get along well with babies unless they are sleeping, and sometimes have to quash my urges to kick young children until they stop breathing. I would not make a good parent, and realize this, and plan to have my tubes tied sometime in the near future. As I'm in my mid-30s, I figure the medical establishment shouldn't have a problem with this.

I've had a fun time doing free-association on your journal entry.
