Back from the grandparents'. 22 people for Christmas dinner, and we could've had 28 easily if everyone had been there. 15 on the 26th, 13 on the 27th. Lots of people. Something of a domestic theme to my gifts from family this year.

Actual Xmas gifts:
(bloodkin)
ball winder
nifty swift
dishtowels with whales
an apron with lighthouses
a heat-resistant spatula
a cookbook
smelly bath stuff
a Dilbert calendar
a set of New Testament commentaries
cash
some thread and crochet cotton from my great-aunt's stash, including a partially completed project
(others)
a necklace
baked goods and a candle
a set of those hand exerciser balls (work white elephant)

Non-Xmas gifts that came home with me:
15 Georgette Heyer books
1 Mary Renault book
There'd've been more, but there was no room in my bags.

I've probably forgotten something; I'll probably update if it comes to me.

The trip was pretty uneventful, except the part where they had to jumpstart the plane due to insufficient air pressure to start the engines.

I read 2 books on the way out, 3 while I was there, and 2 and a bit on the way back.

Angus, Thongs, and Full-Frontal Snogging -- fun fluffy Brit-flavored teen girl novel
Crazy Ladies -- similar to, but not as good as, the Ya-Ya books. I left this one on the travelling books shelf at my grandmother's; possibly she or one of my aunts will like it better.
The Scandalous Summer of Sissy LeBlanc -- Not bad, but not great. Southern housewife, high school sweetheart comes back to town, sparks, family drama, multi-generational scandals, etc.
Bitteroot Landing -- I enjoyed this one; it's an Southern abused child/survivor story
No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency -- Also very good; I want to pick up the other ones in this series
The Bean Trees -- Barbara Kingsolver; I'll probably pick up some more of hers at the used book store
Miss Julia Speaks Her Mind -- fun, slightly fluffy tale of a recently widowed woman, learning the skills necessary to survive without her husband, and dealing with his illegitimate son, who suddenly appears on her doorstep, complete with family drama of his own
Bastard Out Of Carolina -- Another Southern abused-child story; I'm partway into this one. Saw the movie a while back, but have't read the book.

I might be forgetting one here, too.

Lots to do at work this week, although today and Friday are all I've got to do it in, since tomorrow's a holiday. We're trying to do a proof-of-concept Oracle implementation in about two weeks -- we've been running on MySQL, but the company that bought us uses a lot of Oracle, so we're trying to determine if it's feasible to switch, and we have a pretty tight schedule to do so.

I think that's all the news that's fit to print, nor do I think there's any that's unfit to print, before you ask. *grin*
