I can get a vet appointment for the cats in 2 hours, but have to call half a dozen doctors to get myself seen in less than 2 months.

Replacing my printer with a new low-end model was about the same price as getting new ink for it.

Replacing the racks in my dishwasher would cost nearly as much as a new low-end dishwasher.

Amazing that, huh? I got a new Canon printer from a friend for $20 .. he got as free-with-camera... and it cost less than a new set of ink for my old Canon! Gave the old one away on Freecycle.

Ink is so pricey because it is actually made from the blood of Karl Rove (the blackest stuff on earth).

The reason the new printer is cheaper is because it doesn't have as much ink in it as a refill cartridge (they tend to only fill the ink cartridges in new printers about 1/2 or 1/3 as full).

Phun Phact for the day: printer ink is way more expensive than blood. Human blood is (according to figures from a couple years ago) around $150/unit. That works out to around $0.30/ml. The ink for my HP printer is $0.75/ml, so about double the cost of blood.

So, if we can just get a printer to run off of human blood... It wouldn't even have to be fresh blood so I bet you can get a good deal buying the stock that is past its "use by" date.

I wonder if anybody has a patent on this yet? ;)

Some of the colors could be tricky, and the anti-clotting factors necessary to prevent clogs might add to the cost...

Get the blood from hemophiliacs and people with ITP? Lessons the clotting issue.

Yes, but could it be safely acquired?

Depends on the person I think.

If you get it from the Blood Banks in the US it should be mostly safe (at least, I hope our blood supply is mostly safe!).

Obviously it wouldn't work well for color prints, but it would be handy for your everyday printouts. In fact, I think it would give official documents a bit more punch!

Our blood supply is mostly safe, it's more the clotting factor Nolly was talking about.

I suggested people with ITP, or people who don't clot well, but the concern then is "if they don't clot, is it safe for them?"

"Okay, let me just print this out."
"No, this kind of contract requires you to sign in human blood..."
"No problem, that's what I use in the printer."

Neah, the new printer ink carts seemed to be as full with ink as the refills. I'll have to go check to make sure, but that was my original thought too.

I haven't used them yet because I was able to use my old ink from the old printer. :)

This is one of the reasons why veterinarians are better than human doctors. ;-)

Yeah, this vet clinic (http://www.sancarlosvet.com) has a better website than most of the people clinics I've been to, too. And they listen, even when I'm a little rambly.

I just wish I could get the same service from a people doctor.

If the enormous legal/insurance burden were taken off the backs of doctors, would they become as accessible as veterinarians? I wonder.

Of course, the trade-off would be that you wouldn't be able to sue if your husband or wife died on the operating table.

actually, most of the time you can't sue anyways, I know I had to sign an anti-sue waiver before my last surgery, they wouldn't even touch me until I did.

And I believe people can and do sue vets for malpractice, too, but that's really a question for [livejournal.com profile] farmount.

Was it one of those arbitration waivers?
