I'm going to the LA Times Festival of Books on the 29th. Tips, advice, things I should know?

It's crowded and overstimulating. I love it.

The traffic is astounding, even by L.A. standards. [livejournal.com profile] gvdub and I have tried various routes over the years. How are you getting there?

Bring bags *of* money; . . . leave with bags of books. :D

Only buy books there if they are cheaper than in your bookstore or are of the sort you can't easily find at Barnes & Ignoble.

Do a 'windowshopping' cruise first and then go back to the stalls that had things you really wanted

If they will allow it, take a wheeled small cart/suitcase with you.

Great! You'll miss the surface street nightmare.

Ditto on the money and wheeled bag. Also, get the map and plan your route ahead of time so you don't miss your own "must-see" booths.

The non-book booths (maps, book accessories, kites) can be worth a look.

Some of the stalls will give better deals as the Festival goes on. What day is the 29th? The last day is the best day to get deals, especially as it approaches closing. Of course, it's always a game of chicken, holding out for better prices while hoping someone else doesn't give in first and grab the one book you really wanted...

Wish I could be there this year. Sigh. ;)
