Someone broke into my locked truck last night. Looks like all they took was my iPod, its dock, and my parking quarters ($8-9), but I'm kinda rattled.

I can empathize. When they broke the window on Sammi, all they took was a 12-pack of soda (wtf?), but I was still pretty freaked for a few days. Glad you're okay, at least, and I hope you have minimal trouble with the insurance.

I think I'm going to end up under my deductible, so, although I have a claim in and a police report filed, i'm not sure it matters.

*nods* I was under mine by about $50, but CSAA let me schedule the glass-repair appointment in the same phone call, which was helpful.

Bleah. Sorry to hear it.

Our car got broken into a couple of months ago. Amusingly enough, they took my scriptures (which were in a bunchy leatherette case that probably looked to them like an ugly purse) but it still kind of freaked me.

yeah. the pulled the shawl out of the bag with my Bible and all in it, but don't appear to have taken anything beyond the ipod+dock and cash.

I feel for you. At least they didn't take the car. And that you're ok. :o)
When my car got broken into they didn't take anything. Just broke the glass and left. Im grateful but it was still a pain in the butt to get it fixed (especially being under the deductible)
My friends' son had his car broken into recently, had his money, cellphone and laptap in the back seat. All untouched. They did take the "handicapped mirror hanger-thingee" How F**ck'd up is that? Some people are just slugs.

The truck's undamaged; I'm guessing they jimmied the door. I've seen locksmiths do it when I locked the keys in, and a goood one can do it in a matter of seconds. I just don't have anything to listen to my audiobooks and podcasts on while I drive up, which was my plan. A new iPod's really not in the budget right now.

Oy, indeed. Bleah.

When our car got broken into, all they stole were the quarters, dimes, and nickles from the change bin. Which was very weird, because that meant that they sorted out the pennies and wood screws that were mixed in with them, and left them there....

Aw, boo, I'm sorry to hear that.

I see you said it comes under your insurance's deductible. Is that auto or home?

Date: 2007-06-19 08:01 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] nolly.livejournal.com
Home; since the vehicle's undamaged, it's a property claim, ot an auto claim. I've got a $500 deductible and only ~$300 in stolen items.

Cheap mp3 players are down to $18 these days...

I once came downstairs (this was about 2 cars ago) to find my car door left partly open (they slimjimmed my lock too) and nothing missing but a plastic bag that had *all my convention-silliness buttons and pins* in it...

I bet they saw the rolled-up bag and thought it was drugs...I hope they got a good laugh. *G*

My boss said he'd loan me his ipod for my trip, since he doesn't use it. I doubt a $18 mp3 player would really work with my usage patterns, but I'll see what's out there.

Sorry to hear that your truck was broken into AND your precious ipod was stolen! I always wonder if people should leave a hidden but findable file on their MP3 devices that say "If you are reading this, please call this number: ###-###-####. It may be stolen and I am offering money for the safe return." etc. etc.

That way when they pawn it, if someone buys it. Well you know.

A few years back I'd left my accordion in my car and someone broke in. I figured out what happened when I found another accordion next to it. ;)

Have fun at WesterCon!

Close, but not quite -- someone broke my tailgate by backing into it, but they didn't break into the cab or steal anything. Just a hit and run fender bender.

I would be very sad if my iPod were stolen.

I am disproportionately upset, I think. But that was my commute-sanity (audiobooks are my friends) and key to my gym time -- audiobooks or music if I do the machines, or my yoga CD if I'm doing that. I mean, it's just a thing, and I was lucky to have it, but yeah. Is a thing of much badness.

iPods are one of those things that you get to really rely on. I have a hard time dealing with boredom, so mine is a great help to my ability to function at work. I have a hard enough time dealing with "Whoops, ran the battery down and need to wait an hour or so while it recharges."

Plus they feel like personal possessions in a way that money doesn't; almost like a laptop or something. Not that there's the same risk of identity theft as with a laptop, but it feels like an intrusion of that sort.

Ouch... my sympathies. My car was broken into twice, and while nothing of great value was stolen (net loss was less than the value of the iPod), there was still the anger and sense of violation that hit me. I wanted to put a sign on my car: "$500 reward for arrest and conviction of the thief who robbed this car. Yes, that's right asshole, I'll spend five times the value of what you stole, just to see you punished for what you did."
