I'd been thinking in light of all this just how many of the complaintants remember the days of having to know someone on LJ and then begging them for an invite code Maybe this is the difference between being a user whose user number is 6-digits versus being one whose number is 8-digits.
I seem to recall when the invite codes were dropped and LJ was opened up to anyone who signed up on the website, that there were people who raised a fuss about how this was just trying to turn LJ into MySpace, blah blah blah. Same with the v-gifts. And so many other things that are considered positive features of LJ today.
