8) No-name, Wilkie Collins, from Librivox

Family / legal drama. Hard to say more without spoiling anything. Not exactly a sappy Victorian morality tale, though it plays with those tropes at times, and Lessons Are Learned in the end -- but the experience of learning them is important, and not just for the character acting against society.

How was the writing? I've only read WOMAN IN WHITE, IIRC, and found it a bit of a struggle...

Well, I didn't have a problem with it, but I also didn't have a problem with The Woman in White. However, I did both as audiobooks, and I often find dense / older writing styles more accessible in audio.

Interesting point. I have been revisiting some classics via audio books, but mostly as a matter of time (I listen while driving) than a match of media and writing style. Hmmmm.
