Sep. 16th, 2002 10:22 amI need more of a particular sort of yarn.
And I need KB/mouse extension cables.
So I was contemplating when and where to acquire these and realized that the three stores where I buy yarn (Michael's, Beverly's, and Wal-mart) are all in shopping centers with Radio Shacks.
Coincidence? Rat Shack saturation? Evil marketing plot based on gender stereotypes? Some even more insidious conspiracy?

It must be conspiracy

Date: 2002-09-16 11:04 am (UTC)Although, I've bought acrylic stuff at Michael's for baby sweaters. Lion Brand isn't that bad, although it tears my hands to shreds.
On the other hand, thanks to my obsession with natural fiber yarn, I have more expensive yarn that I know what to do with. But, find a yarn shop! They are cool! :)
(Meant good naturedly. Nothing wrong with acrylics. :))

Date: 2002-09-16 11:26 am (UTC)I think I'm glad I don't watch enough TV to have the faintest clue what Teri Hatcher thing you mean. :) Or what Pier One has to do with anything.

Date: 2002-09-16 11:33 am (UTC)I only know of one yarn shop around here, and they're really inconveniently located. I've got some good yarn a (now ex-)coworker gave me, but it's just one or two balls each of this and that, and mostly sportweight or fingering weight, except for the really thick stuff, and mostly ornages and browns and greens, so I'm not sure what to do most of it. Except the pastel mohair, which I'm saving for when someone in my (blood or chosen) family has a kidlet; there's about enough for a baby hat or maybe some booties.

Date: 2002-09-16 11:58 am (UTC)I've made a few baby blankets with acrylic that after washing are very nice. And Mela's baby sweater was made out of acrylic (lion brand homespun). But, for scarfs and stuff I wear, I pretty much go with wool or cotton or silk or whatever. But, that is expensive.

I try to avoid Radio "You've got questions, we've got blank stares" Shack though.
I think the world needs a techie and craft store. Unless one is planning to knit using Cat 5 cable......

Date: 2002-09-16 02:09 pm (UTC)The Pier One thing is yet more annoying commercials with um, Kirstie Alley I think.
Basically it's a sign I need to stop watching network television, even for the news, because it annoys me too much.
