Sep. 26th, 2002 11:23 amA mailing list I'm on has been discusing the 2007 Japan Worldcon bid. They'e planning to ue a convention center in Yokohama. Some people think Yokohama is too far from Tokyo and everything else interesting to be a good location. As I ead the debate, I'm thinking "It can't be that bad; I've heard of it..." Then I realized why the name was familiar: It's the name of one of the ships which brings the colonists to Pern.
Doh.
In other news, FedEx should deliver my wireless gear this afternoon. They attempted yesterday, but I was at work, and either my neighbor wasn't home or they didn't want to leave it. So I signed the little door tag, and I should have the package tonight. Yay! Gonna be a networked geek at last!
I just hope the install goes smoothly...I don't want to drag the DSL "modem" up and down the stairs repeatedly if I can't get the Mac online. (The plan is: DSL into SMC 7004AWBR. Ethernet from router to Mac. SMC2602W card in the PC. Result: Fewer cables running across rooms. Two machines with 'net access.)

Re: Actually, Yokohama's not half bad
Date: 2002-09-28 04:20 pm (UTC)There are a couple of gotchas, though. The first is that the price depends on how long you intend to stay. The second is that if you over-order and have to take stuff home, you pay by the piece for what you haven't eaten.
