At Conjecture, I got another of the wonderful glasses-compatible masks Karey Leichel makes. This one is a leopard/cheetah (spotted, whichever) cat mask, with a bit of hematite, and some beads...I'll post a picture eventually. So, of course, I needed a costume to go with it.

A bit of poking around online found some promising items at Torrid and Lane Bryant, so after work I met [livejournal.com profile] samuraimeg at the Mission Valley mall for adventures in shopping. The combination of rain and the somewhat worn condition of my flip flops made it rather more adventuresome; after the Nth time she saved me from crash landing, it was off to Payless for new shoes. Which were on sale, yay. In fact, most of what I got was on sale -- both the denim scooter and the leopard top at Lane Bryant were on sale (plus I'd printed a 10% off coupon from the website), and the hat and belt at Torrid were half off, though the skirt and socks weren't.. But the skirt I got was $10 less than the one I'd planned to get. You see, Torrid tends to run large. So while I'm just fitting into the size 16 jeans I'm wearing, the size 16 skirts at Torrid are practically falling off. But I bet stuff at Hot Topic would still be too small. What a dilemma... Anyway, they didn't have the one I'd wanted in anything smaller than size 16, but I found another one, which will work both for the costume and for other things, so it's all good.

I'm a size 12-14 in Dunnes Stores, 10-12 in Top Shop, and 8-10 in Debenhams.

They're a myth.

My sisters are sizes 6 and 8 in Dunnes Stores. Everywhere else, they're children.

I'm glad to hear that - as a 28-shading-into-30 (though I appear to be losing weight - go me), I was more than a little disappointed to see that Torrid is yet another "plus-size" store that stops at size 26. (Though at least that's not as aggravating as the places that stop at 24....)

It can vary -- I've had more things run big, but some run small, too. I know [livejournal.com profile] firecat has found stuff there.

Hmmm... Torrid ....

As I'm a size 28/30 bottom and 26/28 top, down from a 5X (maybe a 36?), I'm getting excited when I find things at Lane Bryant and Torrid that work. Honestly, I find Torrid to run on the small side for things like T-shirts (they tend to be cut baby-doll style). As far as the bottoms go, I'm still a few pounds away.

I don't try the shirts very much, as I have Way Too Many already, so they may run small. I have Torrid stuff, which all fit when I bought it, though some is too big now, ranging from 14 to 4X. (The 4X is a dress that was on clearance, probably precisely because the sizing was so insane on it.) I tried on a 16 skirt the other night though, and I could take it off without undoing the zipper. Whereas I'm just barely fitting into my 16 Lee jeans.
