Last night, I got home around 9 PM.
The house smelled faintly of gas.
No fire in the heater, but the fan is blowing and the place is cold enough that heat should be on.
Call SDGE, who tell me to unplug the heater and open the doors and someone will be there in the next 4 hours.
Great.
Open the doors, crochet and watch Gleaming the Cube, then get online for a bit. I don't want to leave the living room area while the doors are open.
Fiinally, around 11:30, the SDGE guy shows up, checks everything out. I clear out my coat closet (where the water heater is) while he's working on the heater. Good thing, because that's where the leak turned up.
All better now.
My place is drafty enough that there wasn't a lot of built up gas inside, which is good.
And since I had everything dragged out of the closet anyway, I took one of the boxes upstairs and put the contents away in the filing cabinet, like I've been meaning to do for 2.5 years now. Maybe I'll do another box tonight.

Good to hear that you're okay. Gas leaks can suck.
