I think I'm going to like the new (additional) location of my yoga studio. The class was small and exactly the level I've wanted -- more of a challenge than the class I've been going to, but still within my capabilities. And the neighborhood is great -- after class, I went to the used book store across the street and started browsing. Had just settled it and started on the crochet and knitting books when the owner said he needed to close for a few minutes to run an errand. Go across the street and check out the coffee shop, and the instructor from the class sticks her head out and invites me to join her. I had some nice coffee and a bagel, and a good conversation, then we went back over to the bookstore. The owner was a little cranky at first, but apologized later. Not cranky enough to be a problem, especially with the apology, and especially if it's not a pattern of behavior -- there's one store I won't shop at any more because the guy who runs it is always borderline rude -- I don't feel that he values my business. This guy seems nice, just a bit stressed this morning, and maybe nervous about new people. Now that I've proved I'm a book person, I think it'll be fine. *grin* Great selection of fiber arts and other craft books, looked like a good religion/philosophy section, though I didn't look too close, good juvie section, OK fiction and SF. Not huge, and a little mixed -- some stuff I"d put in SF/F was in mythology (Mists of Avalon) and some in fiction, but I found a Francesca Lia Block book I not only haven't read, I didn't know existed!

Next stop was the nearby Bookstar (used to be a local chain, but now it's owned by B&N), since my usual comic store hasn't had vol. VI of Sandman the last few times I've looked. No dice here, either, but it's a large, pleasant store. While I try to shop at local stores when it's feasible, there isn't really a good, general independent bookstore around here -- there are specialty stores, like MG, and good used bookstores, but I haven't found an independent general bookstore, much less one in a part of town I'm ever in and with decent parking. Anyway, I didn't get anything at Bookstar today.
Off to a nearby comic store, where I got tthe Sandman volume, though they didn't have VII, and a Wolff & Byrd collection. Then to Tower, where I found some treasures in the Xmas returns (yay!), got a couple of magazines, and picked up Buffy season 1.

Also in the area, for future expeditions, are several good sized thrift stores. And a branch of my bank. And several interesting-looking restaurants. All I need to be totally set is a good local yarn shop. I'll have to do a little research; there may be one hiding somewhere.

Next step was going to be cleaning my room, but I've developed enough of an appetite while writing that I'm amending that to lunch then housework. But I have new CDs to accompany my efforts, and it's a lovely sunny day, so I'll open the curtains over the balcony doors, and I'll be set.

Sandman, though they didn't have VII.

I'd be glad to lend you my copies of volumes 7 through 9 (don't have 10, sorry -- or 6 or 5 or 4, at that).

Also, where is this good bookstore? I've been kind of disappointed with my used bookstore discoveries, but then, I haven't explored much.

Appreciate the offer, but I like owning them. :) The store I usually go to has had 7 the last couple of times I've been in, and usually has them all in stock, so by the time I'm done with the Strangers in Paradise collections I'm working on and with 6, they'll probably be completely restocked.

The bookstore is on Rosecrans, pretty far south; the 900 block, I think. There's also a few downtown I've had decent luck with, but downtown can be a pain. And there are several on Adams Ave., but I haven't spent much time in them -- I've been trying to make a dent in my accumulation.
