I feel like I should write a big ol' detailed update, but I suspect it's not going to happen. So I'll start with a semi-disjointed summary, and see where it goes.
My vacation was quite nice. I highly recommend The Turret House to anyone looking for a B&B in SoCal. Much yummy foodness, lovely decor, friendly hosts. Much yummy foodness nearby, too. I was especially pleased with the Vintage Tea Leaf; definitely want to go there again. The Library is a very pleasant coffee shop. I mostly avoided the lure of the bookstores; I did browse Acres of Books but didn't buy anything.
Books I read:
The Amazing Maurice and His Educated Rodents, Terry Pratchett
The Blind Assassin, Margaret Atwood
China Mountain Zhang, Maureen F. McHugh
Jennifer Government, Max Barry
Wolff & Byrd, Case Files vol. 1, Batton Lash
I didn't take Frankenstein with me; still working on that at home. Made a bit more progress on the non-belated Mother's Day present, but it's still not quite done.
Came home Wednesday. Had to deal with some heavy traffic on 5, but missed the worst of it -- was very glad I wasn't working that day, even though I don't actually commute on 5 or 805. I'm sure Genessee was more horrid than usual due to people who do usually take the freeway using it as an alternative.
When I got home, one of my neighbors informed me that they're evicting another resident, so I called the property manager to lay claim to his garage. Yay garage! (We have 5 units and 4 garages; I've been waiting for 3 years for one.) My rent may go up a bit (I'm not 100% sure it will, as I'm not sure they aren't charging me the with-garage rate now.) but it will give me a lot more storage, which will help get my place much more presentable.
Tonight I'm going to the opera with
samuraimeg.
