I know very little about some of the people on my friends' list. Some people I know relatively well. Some of you I hardly know at all. Perhaps you lurk, for whatever reason. But you friended me and I thank you.
But here's a thought: why not take this opportunity to tell me a little something about yourself. Any old thing at all. Just so the next time I see your name I can say: "Ah, there's so and so...she likes spinach."
I'd love it if every single person who friended me would do this. Yes, even you people who I know really well. Then post this in your own journal, if you feel like it.

Date: 2003-12-12 04:34 pm (UTC)Cessna 172, which cruises at about 100 knots = (approx) 115 mph.
So, San Jose to Burbank would be about 3 hours of flying,
wind permitting. i.e. way faster than driving, but slower than jets.
I've not explored owning my own airplane, but renting one is on the
order of $80 per "Hobbs" hour. (Airplane rentals are based off of the amount of time you have the engine running, which is measured by a meter called a "Hobbs" which counts time only while the engine is running. This is because the largest expense of owning an airplane is FAA required overhauls and inspections, which occur at specific time intervals measured, again, by Hobbs time) $80 per hour is a "wet" fee, which means they fill the gas tank up when you leave, and you can return it with as
much or as little gas as you want. Depending on wind conditions, you
might need another tank of gas for the return trip.... $3.00 per gallon x 40 gallons = $120
There is generally a 3 hobbes-hour minimum per day (to cover the cost of them not having the airplane during that time), so say 9 hours = $720 for
a 3-day con.
While a Cessna 172 has four seats, it's only got a weight capacity of some 800 pounds, so three people + stuff is about the most I could do, which would make shares like $280.
I think you can get a round trip ticket from SJC to LA for less than that.....
Now, that being said, I think going the Cessna route could be more _fun_.... :-)
