<user>@mac.com has decided to harass me via email. 75 messages so far. Email to postmaster@mac.com and abuse@mac.com has gone unacknowledged. <user> is SoCal fandom's best-known psycho. Suggestions for further steps?

First, decide whether you want to publish <user>'s identity, or otherwise appeal for help from friends. Second, see if your ISP can help or offer advice.

By the way, LJ ignores anything it doesn't recognize in angle-brackets; I've used < to create a visible left bracket so <user> displays.

I'd like to know < user's > identity, if only to avoid < user >

i guess one of my questions would be how descriptive your label is -- "psycho" means exactly what here? harassment is what? are there threats in the email? do you worry that zie is gonna escalate into meatspace?

my own experience with kooks has been that ignoring them, even when harassed, works best for me. i can delete email or gate it straight to /dev/null, but while i am all for hunting down spammers and getting their accounts revoked, kooks are a different story. one might get such a person really going ballistic if such actions succeed -- and accounts are a dime a dozen, really, so zie'll be back.

kooks are also a different story because, well, they are sick, you know? unless my actions can get them treatment, or reliably protect me, what's the point?

-piranha (sorry to hear you're having such troubles, that really sucks)

In this case, I mean that zie is, IMO, a textbook borderline personality. Completely unpredictable. More explosive than the Katie Ka-Boom character from Animaniacs. The email isn't threatening, just annoying -- 81 messages over 6 days. (More have come in since I first posted.) One side of me knows ignoring zir is the best I can do; another sides hates to see zir "get away with it".

I'm generally able to avoid zir in meatspace; zie has moved from my immediate local area to the next county north, so I only see zir at the occasional con.

Looks like procmail's already installed, actually. Have to spend some time looking at the man page when I don't have a temp ~100, because there's no way I can comprehend it right now.

If you have asked this... being... to stop emailing you, but still does anyway.

I've *heard* an effective method is to start forwarding all their own mail back to them.
